Scorched Skies is a coming of age fantasy focusing on duty, family, and identity (and, I suppose, a romance too). I am truly impressed by how much I enjoyed Tanwen, our heroine, and her journey while simultaneously being uninspired by Zolya as both a love interest and as a protagonist. The stakes were high for Tanwen and she rose to the occasion in a way that was enjoyable to root for while Zolya consistently floundered. I probably would have rated this higher if there had been a better MMC. Still would recommend this for the female characters, magic, and worldbuilding.
P.S. Is it bad if I hope Tanwen get’s the love interest she deserves in the next book?
